Work on the M-119 non-motorized (bike) trail into Harbor Springs has officially begun. Signs are up indicating a construction zone from Pleasantview Road to the city limits.
The Michigan Department of Transportation began this week clearing trees along the path route, Steve Zaglaniczny, Assistant Engineer with MDOT based in Grayling, said on Tuesday morning.
“There should be no major impact to traffic right now,” Zaglaniczny said. “They are working with some shoulder closures and there may be some occasional lane closures.” M-119 will remain open to traffic.
Zaglaniczny said the project is slated to be completed toward the end of October.
The new path will be a continuation of the trail from the intersection of M-119 and Pleasantview Road into Harbor Springs at Lake Street. When completed, the nonmotorized trail will extend all the way from Harbor Springs into Charlevoix, passing through Petoskey and Bay Harbor.
