The Crooked Tree Arts Center will present an Artist Studio Tour on Saturday, September 26, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The tour is self guided and each artist will be in their studios to share their inspirations, techniques, and methods.
“Your ticket will open the doors of 15 area artists’ studios, and for those artists that have retail locations, such as the Otis’, visitors will be allowed to enter the private spaces not usually open to the public” remarked committee co-chairs, Kurt and Phoebe Wietzke, of Boyne City. “We encourage people to make of day of it, enjoying a drive throughout northern Michigan, having lunch and learning more about the creative artists that make their living here” Kurt Wietzke suggested.
Participating artists include: Cynthia Rutherford (painting, mixed-media, collage); Paul Varga (sculpture); Cross Village Rug Works (textiles); Lynn Dinning Good Hart Glassworks (glasswork); Kirby Snively (woodwork); Russ, Sue & Lori Bolt (painting, ceramics); Cal Kemppainen (painting); Steve Toornman/ Meredith Krell (painting, etching, printmaking); David, June, & Andrew Otis (pottery); Jordan Valley Glassworks (glasswork); Glen McCune (sculpture, printmaking, drawings); Carol Ross (painting); Nanette Dion (painting); Penny Kristo/Shade Tree Stained Glass Studio (stained glass).
Over 100 volunteers will be assisting the artists and guiding visitors the day of the tour.
“We are looking for a few more volunteers to help, as it’s a great way for someone to donate a few hours for this fundraising event and perhaps meet new people” noted co-chairs Deanna Klosinski and Bill Collins, of Petoskey.
The volunteers, artists and sponsors are invited to an Appreciation Party at the arts center after the tour.
“Crooked Tree Arts Center board member Ronnie Higgs, Harbor Springs, has planned a great event with delicious food catered by the Crow’s Nest, music, and chair massages provided by The Spa at the Inn at Bay Harbor ” said Cindy McSurely, CTAC’s Development Director.
Individuals interested in volunteering for the Artist Studio Tour should call the Crooked Tree Arts Center .
Tickets are $25 for advance sales and $30 the day of the tour.
Attendees will also have the chance to win artwork donated by some of the artists. Tickets are available throughout Charlevoix and Emmet counties at McLean and Eakin, Petoskey; Local Flavor, Boyne City; Round Lake Bookstore, Charlevoix; East Jordan Chamber of Commerce; Between the Covers, Harbor Springs; Cross Village Rug Works and online at www.crookedtree.org.
