H1N1 vaccinations now available by appointment at Health Department

Bookmark and Share

(November 12, 2009): H1N1 vaccinations will be available by appointment beginning Monday, November 16 at Health Department locations in Antrim, Charlevoix, Emmet, and Otsego counties. Due to limited supplies of H1N1 vaccine, at this time, H1N1 vaccinations are open for the following “vaccine priority groups” identified by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control (CDC) & Prevention:
• Pregnant women
• People who live with or care for infants six months and younger (parents, brothers/sisters, child care providers)
• Children, adolescents, and young adults age 6 months through 24 years
• Health care workers and emergency medical personnel
• Adults age 25 to 64 with medical conditions (asthma or other lung disease, heart disease, diabetes, neurological disorders, cancer or chemotherapy, or immune system disorders)

Although H1N1 vaccine production is getting a slow start, the CDC does not expect a vaccine shortage. Everyone who wants H1N1 vaccine should be able to get it over the next few weeks and months. As the Health Department receives additional H1N1 vaccine shipments, additional clinics will be scheduled as quickly as possible.

The Health Department of Northwest Michigan is mandated by the Michigan Public Health Code to promote wellness, prevent disease, provide quality healthcare, address health problems of vulnerable populations, and protect the environment for the residents and visitors of Antrim, Charlevoix, Emmet, and Otsego counties. For additional information or to schedule an H1N1 vaccination appointment, call 800-432-4121 or visit www.nwhealth.org for weekly H1N1 vaccination schedules and other resources.
