John Jolliffe

John D. Jolliffe, 80, of North Canton, Ohio, died January 18, 2009. He was born February 23, 1928 in Detroit, MI to the late Samuel Hopkins and Marguerite Dennis Jolliffe.

He graduated with a BS degree from Ohio State University in 1950 and from the University of Michigan Law School in 1956. A member of the American, Ohio, and Stark County Bar Associations, he was admitted to practice before the U.S. Supreme Court, U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, U.S. District and Supreme Court of Ohio. John was the recipient of the 1985 United Way Gold Key Award for Community Service. He was active with United Way of Central Stark County and served as Vice President of the Welfare Federation Board of Trustees. He also served as President of Family Counseling Services, the Canton Urban League, Catholic Youth Council, United Way Case Aide Program, Canton Athletic Club Board of Governors & Arts Unlimited. He is a present member of St. Paul’s Catholic Church of North Canton and was a former lector at each parish.

The Jolliffee family summered for many years both at Walloon Lake and in recent years Marina Village in Harbor Springs where they attended Holy Childhood Church. John was frequently seen in Harbor Springs greetings friends from his red electric scooter.

He is survived by his wife Laurie; three daughters Linda (David) Van Vlissingen of Lake Forest, IL, Julie Cross of Canton, Elizabeth (Robert) Fitzgibbons of Longmont, CO; son William(Mancy) Jolliffee of Greenwood, CO; 12 grandchildren; sisters Carole (Jim) Berutti & Peggy McCann, both of Columbus; brother Robert Jolliffee of Birmingham, MI. He was preceded in death by his brother Samuel Hopkins Jolliffee
