Margaret Tippett

Margaret Jean Tippett, 92, of Harbor Springs, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Jan. 25, 2019, at McLaren Northern Michigan Hospital.

Margaret was born May 5, 1926, at Lockwood Hospital in Petoskey, the daughter of Lee and Ruth (Corey) Cosens. She grew up in Harbor Springs and attended Hedrick School. She also attended and graduated from Harbor Springs High School in 1944.

On September 27, 1947, she married George W. Tippett at the old Stutsmanville Chapel. George preceded her in death on August, 11, 2002.

When she was young, she nannied for a family on Harbor Point and worked at a radio cabinet factory in Harbor Springs. For many years, Margaret worked in the kitchen at the Emmet County Care Facility (Bay Bluffs).

Family and faith were centerpieces of her life. She and her husband, George, were longtime members of the Stutsmanville Chapel. She enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren, knitting, crocheting, cooking, and traveling extensively in the UP with her husband. She was always ready with a kind word and chocolate chip cookies were always freshly baked.

Margaret is survived by her two sons, George L. (Carol), Gary (Carolyn); seven grandchildren, Sarah, Tim ( Jessica), Amanda (Bradley), Amy, Nathaniel (Katie), Ethan, and Josiah. She is also survived by three sisters-in-law, Evelyn, Merlyn, and Agnes Tippett. She was preceded in death by her sister Ethel (Kenneth) Shinn and brother Lee (Loretta) Cosens, Jr. She is also preceded in death by 8 brothers-in-law and 2 sisters-in-law.

The family suggests memorials to the Harbor Springs Area Historical Society.
