John Weber, Sr.

John “Jack” Weber, Sr., passed away February 3, 2021, at his home in Harbor Springs at the age of 87.

Jack was born February 8, 1933, in Petoskey to Rose (Schmoldt) and Edwin Weber. He grew up in Petoskey and after graduating from Petoskey High School in 1951, served in the U.S. Army for two years. He worked at Harbor Point Golf Course for 25 years, where he also played in the men’s golf league. Prior to Harbor Point, Jack worked for Harbor Springs Public Schools, Birchwood Inn, and Kilwin’s Bakery.

On May 10, 1952, Jack married the love of his lie, Beverly Anne “Bev” Hickman, in Harbor Springs, where together they raised their four children. Jack and Bev loved to dance, especially polkas, and also enjoyed having family and friends come to their cabin on Crooked Lake to boat, swim, fish and play cards. They could often be found at ballgames or band concerts where their children, grandchildren, or great-grandchildren were playing. Longtime fans of Petoskey fastpitch softball will remember Jack as the hot-tempered, hard-hitting centerfielder for Fochtman Motors in the 60’s and early 70’s.

Jack is survived by his children, Joe ( Jacqueline) Weber of Clarksville, Tennessee, Karen Weber-Jensen of Harbor Springs, John (Kathy) Weber, Jr., of Harbor Springs, and Lois (Lyal) Hankins of Harbor Springs. Also surviving Jack are his sister-in-law GloriaWeber, brother-in-law Al Hickman; and 11 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Jack was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Beverly (Hickman) Weber; brother, Edwin J. Weber, sister and brother-in-law, Faye and Gerald Fryczynski; sister, Rosemarie Hayes; and son-in-law Bill Jensen.

There will be a visitation at Stone Funeral Home (Petoskey) on Saturday, February 13, 2021 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. It is required that anyone in attendance must wear a face mask or face covering and practice social distancing while inside the building.

A memorial service will be conducted later this year when Jack will be laid to rest next to his wife Bev at Lakeview Cemetery in Harbor Springs.

In lieu of flowers, friends may wish to consider donations in Jack’s memory to the Little Traverse Bay Humane Society or the Alzheimer’s Association.

The Weber family is being served by Stone Funeral Home.
